This captivating journey will take you through the rich Jewish heritage sights across Spain on the rich Jewish Spain Tour. Starting from bustling Barcelona, you will visit the Jewish quarters Barcelona of Girona and Besalu. From there we continue to the historic centres of Granada, Lucena, Cordoba, Malaga, Toledo, Seville and Cordoba, and a fabulous Shabbat in Gibraltar all marked with Jewish history where communities have existed for centuries.

Day 1: Monday 20 Oct – Barcelona
Welcome to Spain!
Welcome assistance at the airport. Transfer to the hotel and check in.
Welcome and introduction meeting.
Jewish tour Barcelona: 2.30-hour walking to explore the Jewish quarter Barcelona. Get to know the origins of the city, walk along the labyrinth of hallways of El Call -the old Jewish quarter- visit the site where the famous dispute of Nahmanides took place and the old medieval Synagogue.
Welcome dinner at a kosher restaurant or at the hotel.

Day 2: Tuesday 21 Oct – Girona and Besalu
Breakfast at the hotel.
Day trip to explore the medieval Jewish legacy of Catalonia in Girona and Besalú.
Guided visit the amazing old town of Girona (1h30), hometown of Nahmanides, its Jewish quarter and the Museum of Jewish History.
Continue with the bus to the spectacular medieval village of Besalú (30 mins) to discover one of the best preserved medieval Jewish quarters in Europe and its original Mikveh from the 13th Century.
Lunch
Return to Barcelona by 4:30 pm and free time to explore the city on your own.
Dinner in a Kosher restaurant or at the hotel.

Day 3: Wednesday 22 Oct – Granada
Breakfast at the hotel and check out.
10:40 am Flight to Granada, arriving at 12:50 pm
Lunch in Granada at the Mirador of San Cristobal to enjoy the beautiful views of the city and the Alhambra. Overview of Jewish Granada history
Guided tour of the Alhambra, the Nasrid Palaces and Gardens of the Generalife, the Alhambra, a complex of fortress, palaces, and gardens of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the last bastion of the Muslim period of the Peninsula, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and site where the Edict of Expulsion was issued in 1492.
Bus transfer to Torremolinos (20 mins from Malaga) and check in at the hotel. (1h45)

Day 4: Thursday 23 Oct – Lucena, Córdoba, Malaga
Breakfast at the hotel.
Day trip to Lucena and Cordoba.
Visit to the Jewish Necropolis of Lucena discovered in 2007 (1.15h) which gives an idea of the importance of this Jewish city, inhabited exclusively by Jews between the 9th and 12th centuries. Discover the figures that founded one of the most important Talmudic schools of Sefarad during this period.
Continue with the bus to Cordoba (1h).
Arrival in Cordoba and lunch at a Kosher restaurant.
Visit to Casa de Sefarad: A cultural project that spreads Sephardic history, culture, and tradition where we will enjoy a performance of Sephardic songs and music in Ladino.
Walking tour in the beautiful historic center of Cordoba, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Walk through the streets of the Jewish quarter, visit the only synagogue in Southern Europe still standing, from the 14th century, and discover figures such as the Rambam, Ibn Shaprut or Yehuda Halevi that mark the Jewish roots of Cordoba. Visit to the impressive Umayyad Mosque of Cordoba, built in the 8th century.
Bus return to Málaga (2h15). Short stop in Málaga to visit the Square of Ibn Gabirol and explore his importance.

Night in Torremolinos
Day 5: Friday 24 Oct – Gibraltar
Breakfast at the hotel and check out.
Bus transfer to Gibraltar (1h50). Crossing the border and transfer to the hotel. Check in at the hotel.
Gibraltar Rock tour – Sightseeing tour in small local buses, visiting Europe point, Saint Michael caves, Ape reserve, and tunnels of WWII.
Lunch at Chalavi kosher restaurant in Gibraltar.
1 hour dolphin watching tour.
Kabbalat Shabbat at one of Gibraltar Synagogues.
Shabbat dinner in a Kosher restaurant.

Day 6: Shabbat 25 Oct – Shabbat in Gibraltar.
Breakfast at the hotel.
Shabbat free day with attendance to the different synagogues for services
Lunch at a Kosher restaurant.
Optional: Walking tour discovering the history, culture, and Jewish community life in Gibraltar.

Day 7: Sunday 26 Oct – Seville, Madrid
Breakfast at the hotel and check out.
Transfer to the border, crossing the border on foot (is the only way). A bus will be waiting for the group on the Spanish side of the border.
Bus transfer to Seville (2h45).
Jewish Seville – Walking tour through the magical streets and alleys of the current neighborhoods of Santa Cruz, Santa María la Blanca, and San Bartolomé, where the old Jewish quarter was located, one of the most prosperous in Andalucia until its destruction in the XIV century.

Fast train to Madrid
Bus transfer to the hotel on arrival and check in at the hotel.

Day 8. Monday, 27 Oct – Toledo

Bus transfer to Toledo (50 mins)
Guided visit to the Jewish quarter of Toledo, one of the most well preserved medieval Jewish quarters in Spain. Panoramic view of the city. Visit to the medieval Synagogues of Santa Maria La Blanca and Transito Synagogue. Learn about the notables Samuel Halevi and Yosef Caro.
Lunch (lunch boxes) in Toledo.
Return to Madrid (1h).
Guided visit to the Prado Museum with focus on a Jewish-converso artworks (optional).
