Monday, April 14 – Palermo: Sicily’s Capital, Jewish History, and Wildlife Park
The day begins with a 90-minute drive to Palermo, the vibrant capital of Sicily. This lively city offers a rare combination of history, unique architecture, and breathtaking views. Our guided tour will take us to the bustling Capo Market, where we will explore the rich aromas, colors, and flavors unique to the region.
We will visit the magnificent Norman Palace, once the residence of Sicily's kings, and the impressive cathedral, considered one of the city's most important architectural symbols.
Next, we will explore the old Jewish quarter and recount the story of the Jewish community expelled by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492. While no physical remnants remain, the street names and history speak for themselves.
We will enjoy a panoramic view in Monreale, overlooking the city and the sea from an awe-inspiring vantage point.
The day will conclude with a short hike at Belvedere Pizzo Orecchiuta, nestled in the heart of the wildlife park.
Tuesday, April 15 – The Marzipan Town and Magical Mines
Today’s journey is dedicated to unique experiences in Erice, known as the "Marzipan Town" of Sicily. A scenic 100-minute drive will bring us to this picturesque town perched atop a cliff approximately 750 meters above sea level. On clear days, you can see as far as Tunisia’s shores!
We will wander the ancient, fortified streets.
Our next stop is Trapani, where we will discover the famous Mozia salt pools and learn their fascinating history. A shallow land bridge will lead us to the remains of an ancient Phoenician city, offering a magical blend of land and sea.
Wednesday, April 16 – Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples
We will head south to Agrigento, a true gem of Sicily. Our visit begins at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Valley of the Temples, home to remarkably well-preserved Greek temples from the 5th century BCE. Highlights include the Temples of Juno, Hercules, Concordia, Hera, and Zeus.
Afterward, we will explore the Kolymbethra Botanical Gardens, a magical haven filled with lush vegetation, intoxicating scents, and colorful vistas that tell the story of ancient Akragas’ agriculture and history.
Thursday, April 17 – A Choice Between Untamed Nature and Volcanic Power
Option A – Torre Salsa Nature Reserve
We will visit the stunning Torre Salsa Nature Reserve, a hidden gem on Sicily’s southern coast. The trip includes views of sand dunes, breathtaking cliffs, and ancient watchtowers. We will explore this wildlife-rich area, including the elegant sea turtles, and enjoy the tranquility of the reserve.
Option B – Mount Etna: The Ultimate Volcanic Experience
An unforgettable day at Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano! We will ascend by cable car to an altitude of 3,000 meters, explore dried lava fields, and observe active craters up close. This experience features extraordinary landscapes, trembling ground, and vibrant colors created by unique geological processes.
Friday, April 18 – Sciacca: The Fishing Harbor, Enchanted Castle, and Gorgeous Beach
Our final day takes us to the coastal town of Sciacca, renowned for its rich history and stunning beauty. We will start at the charming fishing harbor and vibrant fish market, soaking in the local atmosphere.
We will visit the Enchanted Castle, a special site that feels straight out of a fairytale.
To conclude, we will embark on an experiential boat ride with the chance to spot dolphins, ending at San Marco Beach. Here, you can dip into the sea and take in the magnificent coastal views of Sicily.
