About Indianapolis

Indianapolis is the capital of the U.S. state of Indiana and the county seat of Marion County. With an estimated population of 843,393 in 2013. Indianapolis prides itself on its rich cultural heritage. Several initiatives have been made by the Indianapolis government in recent years to increase Indianapolis's appeal as a destination for arts and culture. Constructed between 2007 and 2013, the Indianapolis Cultural Trail is an urban bike and pedestrian path that connects the city's five downtown Cultural Districts. Indianapolis has many museums, art galleries and monuments. Indianapolis is a major center for automobile racing. Since 1911, the Indianapolis 500 has been the premier event in the National Championship of open wheel car racing. Summers are warm to hot and humid, winters are cold, with an average January temperature of 18.1 °F (−1.1 °C).

Jewish History, POI & Kosher Establishments in Indianapolis

The first-known Jewish settlers in Indianapolis were Moses Woolf, Alexander and Daniel Franco, who emigrated from London about 1850. At one time the JC Center’s address at 67th and Hoover roughly corresponded with the Jewish population center of the Indianapolis Jewish community. This is no longer the case. It hasn’t been the case, in fact, for around 30 years. These days the Jewish population is to be found further north in Westfield and Zionville and numbers around 10,000. The six or so synagogues are also located near the JCC in Meridian Hills. There is very little in the way of places that you can eat kosher food in, there are shops you can by kosher food from.
