Sukkot program at The Blue Lagoon kosher hotel in Cyprus with Yoni Kahana Group
The holiday of Sukkot (Succot) is one of the three Pilgrimage Festivals that takes place in the fall, usually September or October. The holiday of Sukkot is also known as “Chag HaAsif” or the Harvest Festival, as fall is when some of the crops in Israel are ready for harvest. The word Sukkot means “huts” as the holiday commemorates the temporary shelters that Hashem provided the Jews in the desert. For the seven days of Sukkot, Jews eat all their meals in the Sukkah. Another mitzvah of Sukkot is to make a blessing on the four minim (four kinds), which include the lulav, etrog, hadassim and aravot.
Sukkot 2022 begins on Sunday night, October 9th and ends on Sunday night, October 16th. Sukkot goes right into the holiday of Shmini Atzeret and Simchat Torah with begins on Sunday night, October 16th and ends on Tuesday night, October 18th. In Israel, Shmini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are on the same day and begins Sunday night, October 16th and ends on Monday night, October 17th. Sukkot is a very popular time for a family vacation. Many people attend Sukkot programs so they don’t have to deal with building a sukkah or cooking all the holiday meals.
In recent years, Sukkot has become a very popular time for taking a long vacation which has given rise to a growing kosher Sukkot programs industry, similar to the Passover programs industry but on a smaller scale. One of the main reasons for this is that observant Jews usually don't work during the seven days of Sukkot or Shmini Atzeret which follows and school-age children are on vacation from school. This makes it a perfect time for taking the whole family on a vacation and a kosher program is a great fit so you don’t have to worry about food or finding a sukkah for your meals. The beautiful locations, hotel amenities and fun activities ensure a fantastic Sukkot family vacation.
COVID put a damper on all travel and programs in 2020. Though Sukkot 5782 was celebrated at one of the last pandemic waves, with a lot of uncertainty and nervousness, considering Israel and many other countries were shut down for travel and other restrictions were involved, there were still a number of successful programs for Sukkot in 2021:
